THE PALACE THEATRE
Our History:
The Palace opened as
a vaudeville and movie house on November 22, 1926 by Canton
entrepreneur and industrialist, Harry Harper Ink
It was designed by
noted ‘atmospheric’ theatre architect, John Eberson of
Chicago; it is one of
only a few of his theatres remaining in the country.
It features an original
Kilgen Pipe Organ, which provided background music for
silent movies.
One of only a few Kilgens remaining, it is the only one still
in its original home.
The Palace closed in
1976, and was scheduled to be destroyed. The Canton Jaycees
and a
group of other concerned citizens stepped up to save it. It
reopened in 1980. Approximately
$4.0 million has been spent to date for restoration and upkeep of
this beautiful theatre.
